bio.fsm.undip.ac.id. Dr. Sri Isdadiyanto, a lecturer and researcher at the Animal Biology Structure and Function Group of the Department of Biology at FSM Diponegoro University, has successfully completed a research project titled “Histopathophysiology of Experimental Animal Organs (Rattus sp.): Blood Chemical Content Test and the Potential of Herbal Medicine.”
The objective of this research was to understand and analyze several natural compounds with potential as herbal medicine through subchronic testing on experimental animals, particularly rats (Rattus sp.). The ultimate goal was to provide valuable information regarding the potential of certain natural compounds as herbal remedies.
Dr. Isdadiyanto made noteworthy discoveries in his research. The utilization of ethanol extract from mahogany seeds (Swietenia mahagoni) in hyperlipidemic rats yielded promising results. The study demonstrated that the extract could improve blood lipid profiles, widen the lumen of the aorta and coronary arteries, and enhance the histological structure of the liver in hyperlipidemic rats.
“In our observations, the ethanol extract from mahogany seeds not only showed potential in lowering blood lipid levels but also had positive impacts on the cardiovascular system and the hepatic structure in hyperlipidemic rats,” stated Dr. Isdadiyanto.
This research not only contributes significantly to the development of biology at FSM Diponegoro University but also opens up possibilities for the development of herbal medicine derived from natural compounds. These findings could provide a new alternative in the treatment and prevention of various health disorders, particularly those related to high blood lipid levels.
As a lecturer handling various courses in the Bachelor’s Program in Biology, Dr. Isdadiyanto remains dedicated to developing research competencies in the field of animal histopathophysiology. The courses he teaches include Animal Physiology, Animal Anatomy, Histology, Animal Embryology, and Pathobiology. His involvement in this research strengthens the quality of education and scientific development at FSM Diponegoro University.
It is hoped that the results of Dr. Sri Isdadiyanto’s research will serve as a foundation for further developments in the field of herbal medicine and make a significant contribution to the advancement of biological sciences.
