SEMARANG (Jatengdaily.com) – Community Service Team Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) University of Diponegoro (Undip), perform services in the Karimunjawa Islands, Jepara regency, Central Java. The theme is ‘ empowerment of coastal communities to improve modern cultivation systems in the utilization zone of Karimunjawa.’While the target of FSM community service is students of SMK Negeri 1 Karimunjawa, and has been held on 25 to 28 May, located in the Hall of SMK N 1 Karimunjawa.

FSM team, the field of Biological Sciences is chaired by Prof. Drs. Sapto P. Putro, M.Si., Ph.D. With members consisting of Prof. Dr. Widowati, S.Si, M.Si, Farikhin, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D, Prof. Kusworo Adi, M.Si and Satriyo Adhy, S.Si., M.T. Team leader Prof Sapto P Putro said that community service carried out on the Karimunjawa Coast is an activity to improve the fisheries sector because of its enormous potential. On the other hand, the demand generated from the growth of the fisheries sector is predicted to be a driver for the economic development of countries that have abundant maritime potential, including Indonesia.

Widowati said that the purpose of this service activity is to implement environmentally friendly cultivation practices that can increase the production of polyculture fish farming systems and reduce the risk of aquaculture activity to the aquatic environment. ”By involving students of SMK Negeri 1 Karimunjawa, then they will know and understand it. In addition, we also socialize related to understanding the importance of environmentally friendly cultivation practices while maintaining the carrying capacity of the environment. In addition, it also conducts biomonitoring applications using abiotic and biotic data approaches for sustainable aquatic environment management, and provides scientific information.

In particular, the diversity of biota in the Karimunjawa Islands region and the condition of water quality to determine the carrying capacity of the environment, and contribute ideas for central and local policy makers by providing a blue print document on the development of marine ecotourism industry in the Karimunjawa Islands area with environmental Insight,’ explained Prof Widowati, who is the dean of FSM Undip. Meanwhile, according to Satriyo Adhy, the development of biomonitoring techniques is important in an effort to support the development of the archipelago in the long-term perspective. “And this, can be done by involving students from an early age,’ he explained, Friday (27/5/2022).

The application of Science and technology offered is a modern cultivation system in the Karimunjawa cultivation zone, which is based on ecological engineering and environmental management. ‘The system becomes a more efficient alternative to replace conventional cultivation systems. These advantages still pay attention to the environmental friendliness of cultivation activities. Environmentally friendly cultivation is important to reduce waste to the aquatic environment, ” he explained. Meanwhile, the head of SMK Negeri 1 Karimunjawa Patto Prawansyah, S. ST. Pi, said that understanding the insight of modern cultivation is very useful to improve the competence of his vocational students. “So that in the future we expect follow-up or action and cooperation in the field of education with FSM Undip,” he explained.

This community service activity was continued with direct practice of IMTA system cultivation in the undip integrated multi Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) floating net cage (KJABB) ordinate, including the practice of feeding, sediment sampling with Ekman Grab, and measurement of water quality parameters in situ.
