biologi.fsm.undip.ac.id – Prof. Drs. Sapto P. Putro, M.Si., Ph.D., Chair of the Center of Marine Ecology and Biomonitoring for Sustainable Aquaculture (Ce-MEBSA) and Head of the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), served as a guest lecturer at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Selangor, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
During his visit, Prof. Sapto delivered a guest lecture on aquaculture at the Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM. The session was attended by fourth-semester students and aimed to broaden their knowledge and understanding of sustainable aquaculture practices.
Following the lecture, Prof. Sapto participated in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with Prof. Dr. Natrah Fatin Mohd Ikhsan, Head of the Department of Aquaculture at UPM and Chair of the Algae Biota Technology and Innovation Research Center (ALBIC). Also in attendance were several UPM researchers, including Dr. Zarirah Mohamed Zulperi (expert in Fish Endocrinology), Dr. Fadhil Syukri (specialist in Aquaculture Genetics and Breeding), and Dr. Muhammad Azfar Ismail (expert in Post-Harvest and Processing).
The FGD centered on outlining a five-year collaborative research plan between the two institutions. The partnership will focus on developing productive and sustainable aquaculture systems for both freshwater and marine environments, with particular emphasis on the environmentally friendly Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture in Floating Net Cages (KJA IMTA) system.
This visit is part of the World Class University (WCU) Program, aimed at enhancing international collaboration in education and research. The initiative builds upon a previous meeting held on October 31, 2024, at UPM, where Prof. Sapto, serving as the initiator and person-in-charge, met with Dr. Fadhil Syukri from the Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM.
The planned collaboration includes joint research, co-authored scientific publications, guest lectures, and student mobility programs.
Prof. Sapto noted that Ce-MEBSA is one of UNDIP’s Centers of Excellence, dedicated to the sustainable management and utilization of coastal and marine areas. The center promotes modern aquaculture systems based on green technology, contributing to the sustainable use of marine resources for human welfare—aligning with the principles of the blue economy.
