Madura, February 24, 2025 – Three lecturers from the Department of Biology participated as guest speakers in a scientific discussion entitled Development of the Mangrove Ecosystem in Madura as Ecotourism. This event was organized by the Marine Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Trunojoyo Madura, and was held in a hybrid format on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 09:00 to 12:00 WIB.

The speakers in this discussion were Prof. Dr. Tri Retnaningsih Soeprobowati, M.App.Sc, a limnology expert and Head of the Center of Paleolimnology (CPalim), Dr. Jumari, S.Si., M.Si., an ethnobotany expert, and Dr. Lilih Khotim Perwati, S.Si., M.Si., a plant taxonomy expert.

Prof. Dr. Tri Retnaningsih, M.App.Sc presented the discussion material in front of the Marine Science Study Program students at Universitas Trunojoyo Madura.

During the discussion session, Prof. Dr. Tri Retnaningsih Soeprobowati emphasized the importance of mangrove ecosystem conservation from a limnological perspective and how environmental changes can affect coastal ecosystem sustainability. Meanwhile, Dr. Jumari highlighted the utilization and local wisdom in managing mangroves as community-based ecotourism. Dr. Lilih Khotim Perwati provided insights into mangrove species diversity and the importance of taxonomy-based conservation.

The event was attended by students, academics, and environmental practitioners interested in conservation and coastal ecotourism. With its hybrid format, the discussion was also accessible to participants from various regions via the Zoom platform, enabling a broader exchange of information and ideas.

This scientific discussion is expected to serve as an initial step in promoting the sustainable management of the mangrove ecosystem in Madura, ensuring both ecological and economic benefits for the local community. The organizers also hope that similar events will continue to be held to enhance awareness and the role of academics in developing environmentally based ecotourism.
