bio.fsm.undip.ac.id – The Biology Undergraduate Program Diponegoro University held a general lecture on the topic “Innovation in Modern Biological Research Based on Plant Morphology.” This lecture featured Prof. Dr. Dra. Ratna Susandarini, M.Sc., from the Faculty of Biology, Gadjah Mada University, as the guest speaker, with Dr. Endang Saptiningsih, M.Si., from Diponegoro University’s Biology Department serving as the moderator. The event, held in the Conference Room on the 3rd floor of Building G, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Universitas Diponegoro, attracted great enthusiasm from active students of the Biology Department.

In her lecture, Prof. Ratna explained that plant morphology is a foundational study and among the earliest biological research fields, yet it remains highly relevant today, with numerous critical applications in contemporary biological research. She emphasized that every morphological structure in plants has evolved for specific functions, opening pathways for diverse interdisciplinary applications involving plant morphology. Additionally, researchers from various disciplines have begun integrating plant morphology studies into their research efforts.

Prof. Ratna encouraged students not to feel discouraged or easily give up when approaching plant morphology as a challenging subject. She advised them to persistently study and thoroughly explore the foundational concepts that ultimately have substantial relevance. This public lecture provided an invaluable opportunity for students to gain deeper insights into the importance of plant morphology in advancing modern research while expanding their knowledge in biology through a multidisciplinary perspective.
