bio.fsm.undip.ac.id. In an effort to strengthen Diponegoro University’s (Undip) vision of achieving the status of a world-class research university, the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) at Undip has initiated a collaboration with Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO) in Seville, Spain.
The Head of the Department of Biology at FSM Undip, Prof. Drs. Sapto P. Putro, M.Si., Ph.D., explained that this collaboration would be realized through various programs, one of which is an exchange program for staff, students, and faculty between the two institutions.
“We hope that through this program, there will be more collaborations in the fields of research, innovation, publication, and teaching. All of this aims to support Undip’s achievement of becoming a World Class University,” said Prof. Sapto on Friday (27/9/2024).
Prof. Sapto also revealed that an Undip delegation had made a working visit to UPO, a university ranked 76-100 in the European Teaching Rankings and 201-250 in the Young University Rankings 2024.
During the visit, Prof. Sapto met with several key figures at UPO, including Prof. Dr. Gassan Hodaifa and the Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Guillerno Repetto Kuhn. Prof. Gassan will be the main partner in this collaboration, with his expertise in Biochemical & Molecular Biology.
The purpose of this visit, continued Prof. Sapto, was to explore potential collaborations between Undip and UPO, including research, student exchanges, and the development of laboratory facilities and IoT technology on the UPO campus.
The results of this visit have been formalized through initial agreements in the form of a Letter of Intent (LoI), Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and Implementation Arrangement (IA) between the two institutions. The Dean of FSM Undip, Prof. Dr. Kusworo Adi, S.Si., M.T., also gave his full support to this program.
Prof. Sapto added that this collaboration is expected to contribute to the development of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in teaching, research, and scientific publication in international journals indexed in Scopus (Q1 or Q2).
Additionally, UPO, located in Seville, the capital of Andalusia, has modern facilities that can serve as a reference for the development of academic infrastructure at Undip, such as multimedia centers, science laboratories, libraries, and sports facilities. UPO also has The International Center, which manages study abroad programs for international students.
Previously, Prof. Sapto had also participated as a speaker at the International Conference on Aquaculture and Fisheries in Spain, where he presented the theme “Productive Sustainable Aquaculture using Integrated Multi-Tropic Aquaculture (IMTA)” and served as a judge in the poster presentation session of the conference.
