UNDIP–UPM Research Collaboration Strengthens Biomaterial Innovation and High-Impact International Publications

The Undergraduate Biology Study Program, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Universitas Diponegoro continues to expand its international network through the Staff Development: Match Making Research Interest program funded by the World Class University (WCU)–EQUITY Program 2025 scheme. The initiative was led by Rizki Sandhi Titisari, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer of Biology FSM UNDIP, as an initial step toward research collaboration with the Microalgae Biota Technology & Innovation Research Group (ALBIC) and the Sustainable Process Engineering Research Centre (SPERC), Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Held on 8–22 December 2025 in Selangor, Malaysia, the program was designed as a research matchmaking forum oriented toward tangible outputs. Activities included research profile presentations, laboratory facility visits, benchmarking of standard operating procedures, and intensive discussions on research gaps, methodology alignment, as well as ethical and biosafety aspects in international collaboration.

As a key outcome, the research team formulated a joint research roadmap and output strategy, including role distribution, data management planning, and medium- to long-term research targets. The agreed collaborative topic focuses on the development of marine-based biomaterials for biomedical applications, with an initial study on the utilization of marine collagen in microneedle patch technology as a non-invasive anti-aging treatment method.

In addition, the program featured a manuscript sprint and proposal sprint aimed at preparing a manuscript for submission to a reputable international journal (Q1 indexed by Scopus) and drafting a collaborative research proposal with an 18–24 month timeline for submission to national and international funding schemes.

The Head of the Biology Study Program FSM UNDIP, Prof. Sapto, expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that it strengthens global exposure and supports UNDIP’s vision of becoming a world-class research-based university. Similarly, Prof. Natrah Fatin of UPM emphasized that this matchmaking initiative serves as a strategic foundation for strengthening international research collaboration between the two institutions.

Through this program, UNDIP and UPM aim to establish a sustainable long-term partnership while enhancing international reputation and increasing the global visibility of Indonesian research.
