Biology Student at FSM Undip Completes International Internship at UPM Malaysia: Advancing Sustainable Shrimp Feed Innovation

Linggar Ridha Kawasa, a student from the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) at Diponegoro University, has successfully completed an International Internship program at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This initiative was funded by the Enhancing Quality Education for International University Recognition (EQUITY Project) under the ALBIC Program.

During the one-month exchange (November 24 – December 17, 2025), Linggar conducted experimental research titled “Chaetoceros Microalgae-Based Live Food as a Natural Nutritional Source in the Pre-Harvest Stage of Pacific White Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei).” The study focused on optimizing microalgae culture as an eco-friendly natural feed to enhance the quality of shrimp production.

The program was supervised by the Head of the Biology Department at FSM UNDIP, Prof. Drs. Sapto Purnomo Putro, M.Si., Ph.D., in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Natrah Fatin Binti Mohd Ikhsan from the ALBIC Research Center at UPM. Beyond laboratory work, Linggar actively engaged in scientific discussions and international practical classes to strengthen his global academic competencies.

Prof. Sapto emphasized that collaborating with UPM—ranked 4th in Southeast Asia according to the QS World University Rankings—is a strategic move for UNDIP’s international reputation. This program not only boosts student mobility but also contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), through sustainable aquaculture innovations.

This cross-border partnership is expected to trigger new advancements in managing Indonesia’s marine resources, ensuring they remain adaptive and sustainable for the future.
